Setting up Scheduled Sponsorships

Scheduled Sponsorship is a feature available to BSA Pro users. It allows publishers to create and sell date blocks through Pro or via the BuySellAds marketplace. Rather than selling your inventory on a CPM or 30 day basis, you can create an unlimited number of date blocks, each with their own pricing.

For example, let's say you a) want advertisers to buy a minimum of 7 days at a time, and b) want them to be forced to book Sunday to Saturday so that you don't end up with stray days that go unbooked, you would add a series of pre-fixed booking blocks that match those criteria.

For each booking block you can also set a special price. If the month of December is your busiest time of the year, you might set the pricing for those weeks slightly higher than the default pricing you use for the rest of the year.

Here's how to get started with scheduled sponsorships and how to make this inventory available in the BuySellAds marketplace and available to book via a Direct Campaign in BuySellAds Pro.

Step 1:
Click the + sign next to Inventory in the left sidebar. Select the Property, Medium, and Template and hit Next >>

Step 2:
Inside the General Settings box, enter your new zone details like you normally would when creating a new zone.

Step 3:
In the Pricing section, select Scheduled Sponsorships from the Public Rate Type drop-down menu. Then enter a daily rate - you will see the Weekly and Monthly pricing update. Then you can set a minimum and maximum length.

Step 4:
Once that's done you can start adding date blocks. You can create date blocks of any number of days. If you would like your date blocks to be from Sunday to Saturday (total of 7 days), simply select the starting and ending dates in the calendar and hit 'Add Block'.

Step 5:
If you are selling Scheduled Sponsorships you'll want to make your inventory available (in both the BSA Marketplace and BSA Pro) for months in the future. Creating a year's worth of date blocks (52 weeks) would be a very time-consuming process, but you can clone date blocks to make it easy.

Enter a date range in the calendar and then hit the Clone button, and a date field will appear. Enter the date you would like to clone your date block until (let's say in 52 weeks from today) and hit the Clone This Date Block button.

BSA Pro will then create 52 date blocks with the exact same settings. You just made your inventory available and purchasable for the next year. Easy, right?

You can also edit each date block individually. For example, if you would like to set your date blocks in July at a higher rate than the rest of the year, you can click on the Edit button next to the date block you want to edit, and then adjust the pricing (and the date range if necessary).

Step 6:
Once you've created your pre-defined date blocks and have set this new zone to show up in the BuySellAds Marketplace you'll see your new inventory available by visiting your marketplace listing page.

You'll see your date blocks listed in chronological order and advertisers can simply select the blocks they want to purchase and add them to their cart.

We also have a date range picker inside this section so advertisers can enter their own date range.

Step 7:
You'll eventually want to book these scheduled sponsorships with BuySellAds Pro.

In order to do that, click on the + icon next to Campaigns in the left sidebar in BSA Pro, select Direct Sale and choose an advertiser from the drop-down list - just like you normally would when creating a new campaign/order.

Step 8:
Once you're on the campaign creation screen, add the scheduled sponsorship zone to your campaign via the right sidebar. Scheduled Sponsorship zones are marked as such in your list of zones.

Step 9:
Just like when advertisers purchase your scheduled sponsorships via the BuySellAds marketplace, you'll have the ability to either enter a date range or select a date block directly from the BSA Pro campaign creation page.

When you're satisfied with your campaign settings, simply take it live!

Step 10 (optional but recommended):
Our Sponsorship Widget is an easily customizable and embeddable widget you can add to your site, that lists your available scheduled sponsorships. It's a great way to spread the word about your scheduled sponsorships. Here's how to get it working:

  • Visit your new Scheduled Sponsorship zone's details page by clicking on it in the left sidebar under the Inventory tab. Then in the top right you will see a new Sponsorship Widget button, click it.
  • You'll be taken to a settings page where you can enter a title, the number of date blocks to show and where you can also customize the color scheme.
  • Once you're satisfied with your settings, click Save at the bottom of the page and then go back to this page and click on Preview in the right box to preview your sponsorship widget.
  • Then simply grab the widget embed code and paste it wherever you would like the sponsorship widget to appear on your website.
